Half Square Triangles made easy!

Its thought that the average quilt maker makes about 5,000 half square triangles in their quilting journey!!! Thats quilt a few of them! And sometimes they are just daunting!!!

I have found a new resource that has a great summary of the many ways of making these here: Half Square Triangles | Quilting Basics - The Sewing Loft (thesewingloftblog.com)

If you have a minute to browse the link above - it's pretty informative for those who struggle with these lovely little half squares! My favorite way to make half square triangles is by using the strip tube ruler method. Of course, it's another ruler - but it comes with so many pattern ideas and uses - that it honestly makes it a great tool to have!

Here is the way to use the Strip Tube ruler:

Position two fabric strips together with right sides facing, lining up the edges. Sew a scant ¼” seam along the long edge of the rectangle. Repeat along the other side.

Use your rotary cutter, cutting mat, and square ruler to cut triangles along the strip.

This will produce many half square triangles. - Press open your seams and trim the finished blocks being mindful of the bias edges.

Below is the image of how to make them and the chart to follow for different sizes:
