After doing some research and some blog hopping from many well experimented Janome users - JANOME FREE MOTION FRAME QUILTING FEET SET a “ruler” foot –  does exist The closed toe foot in this set has a thick “lip” which is very useful for doing free motion quilting when you wish to follow a line or curve using a ruler as your guide.  Some folk like to mark their lines onto their quilt tops with chalk (or other means) and then free motion as close to their markings as possible others use rulers. Rulers are steady and accurate - but remember to allow 1/4 inch between the desired placing of the stitching & ruler edge as the distance between the edge of the foot which will ride along the ruler edge and the needle is 1/4 inch. These two feet will connect onto the convertible free motion foot set. - It is also important to use rulers for machine quilting - these are thicker and wont slip under the foot and damage your machine when the needle hits it... (and breaks your ruler!)

Please note that Janome is not recommending the use of this Convertible Free motion foot and “ruler foot” attachment for machine models which have automatic presser foot lift as there is a chance that the foot could go up too high in the auto presser foot lift function and cause damage. Warranty will not cover damage caused by using these feet on models with Auto presser foot lift: Janome Mc12000, Mc15000 and Skyline S7.

Because your thread is just as important as your fabric - its good to know how to chose the right thread for your machine and projects. We now stock Omni! The new OMNI-V is a 40 wt., beautiful, variegated polyester thread we have designed for quilting. Gorgeous color combinations, low lint, and a subtle matte finish makes OMNI-V an excellent quilting thread. Glide is our other thread edition. Glide is a trilobal polyester thread produced from high-tenacity filament yarn. Elongation variation from color to color is minimal ensuring uniform tension throughout each and every spool.

So - you got a new sewing machine! How exciting! If you recently got a new sewing machine and are not sure where to start - here are some tips that will help you get started and make your sewing a little bit easier going.

​1. Read Your Sewing Machine Manual -
​Its tempting to jump right in and ignore this great tool - but let me assure you reading through this handy manual will be a great place to start. Not all machines are alike and it is your guide to threading the machine properly and learning about the stitches that the machine can do with the proper settings trouble free. Keep this manual close by always!

​2. Familiarize yourself with Parts & Accessories
​Your manual has a page that tells you all the parts and accessories that accompany your machine. It is good to know what feet that have been included with your machine and when to use them with the stitch selections you have, like zigzag sitches or buttonholes. Using the wrong foot with some stitches could easily break a needle. Needles are included with your machine but note the kind they are so that you can get more from your sewing shop.

3.Set up your sewing area
​Make sure you have a sturdy table to sew at - many tables will vibrate and not be good to use for sewing. Since sewing takes time - be sure your table and chair are a comfortable fit for you to relax and enjoy.

​4. Thread Your Machine & Sew
​Following the manual or video - carefully wind a bobbin and thread your machine. Test your threading on a piece of scrap fabric first. If its not threaded correctly - you will know by the thread nest on your fabric or the thread breaking. Trouble shoot and retread if needed. If all is good - sew some practice stitches. When ready - tackle your first project and enjoy!

​Pretty neat new item - for use with all sewing machines, the rotary foot is effective for preventing stretchy fabrics, jersey and knitted fabrics and hard to feed materials, like leather or vinyl from slipping or puckering. The foot also allows left-right tilt and its caterpillars independently grip the fabric for perfect feeding along areas where there is a height difference between the left and right sides of the needle especially when hemming thicker fabrics (like blue jeans!!).
